In April, the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Energy, Industry and Mineral Resources published the government’s target to produce 10% of electricity from renewable sources by 2023. The Waad Al Shamal ISCC combined cycle-CSP hybrid plant will help achieve this target, for which Vilfer Electric has supplied low voltage ISC-type ISOBUSBAR® busbars to power the switchboards and transformers of the plant’s auxiliary substations.
Waad Al Shamal will have a total output of 1,390 MW, of which 50 MW correspond to the CSP plant. The project developer is Saudi Electric Company who awarded the EPC contract to General Electric for the supply of four gas turbines, a steam turbine and the necessary solar technology. The plant is scheduled to come on line in 2018.
